Tributes are flooding in after the tragic d. eath of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a student from Texas, who was fatally stabbed at a track and field event.
On Wednesday, April 2, Frisco Police and Fire responded to an incident at Kuykendall Stadium, located at 6900 Stadium Lane in Frisco, Texas. Authorities later confirmed that an altercation between two students led to one stabbing the other. The vi. ctim, Austin, was at the event with his twin brother.
As news of the shocking incident spread on social media, tributes poured in, with many remembering Austin for his life and spirit. His final post on X, shared on March 31, has taken on special meaning after his d, eath: “Faith that God got me and my work will pay off,” he wrote.
Others expressed their condolences on X. One user wrote, “What a precious heart. He was taken from the world too soon. Although we may not understand the timing, I know God has him now.” Another added, “Praying for strength and courage for the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time…”
According to the New York Post, Austin got into a confrontation with 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, another athlete, at the event. The two had never met before. Austin reportedly told Anthony, who was sitting in the wrong section, to move. The situation escalated when Austin’s brother, Hunter, recounted that Austin told Anthony, “You need to move,” to which Anthony allegedly responded, “Make me move.” Anthony then pu. lled out a k. nife from his backpack and sta. bbed Austin in the ch .-est.
Hunter, who was present, desperately tried to stop the bleeding while waiting for first responders. He called their parents as Austin was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, Austin did not survive. “This is m. urder,” Austin and Hunter’s father, Jeff Metcalf, said in an emotional interview with NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. He described his son as a leader and a passionate football player.
Karmelo Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at Collin County Jail with a $1 million bond. Anthony’s father has defended him, calling his son a “good kid” and claiming he wasn’t the aggressor.
