A shocking discovery was made by residents of an apartment building in Saint-Étienne, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, when they heard what sounded like a baby crying in the early hours of Sunday, March 24, around 4:30 a.m.
The neighbors, alarmed by the cries, emerged from their apartments and were horrified to find bloodstains leading from the hallways to the building’s trash room, which connected to the basement. It appeared as though the infant had just been born.
The residents immediately called emergency services, as the blood trail and cries indicated a newborn in distress. According to Le Progrès, the local fire and rescue team was quickly dispatched, with medical personnel from the Loire Samu also arriving on the scene.
Upon arrival, the baby, who was hypothermic and still attached to the umbilical cord, was swiftly cared for by one of the physicians. Thankfully, the infant was healthy and in no immediate danger. The baby was later transported to the CHU of Saint-Étienne for further care. An investigation into the incident was launched immediately.
